When the cost of natural gas for 172 street lamps in Turtle Rock in Palmer Ranch approached $100,000.00, residents started looking for another way to light their streets. Electric was out because of the hassle – trenches and wiring and black outs when a power-line went down.
Community association members settled on solar. The lights are scheduled to be installed beginning in August by Harrimans Solar of Venice. led lighting
Terry Cooney, treasurer of Turtle Rock Board of Governors, who was among those leading the charge to switch to solar, said “The economic side of it was overpowering, we went with it right away,” he said. led lighting
The money that would have gone to pay for gas every month will now service the $200,000.00 loan for the new lights. led lighting
Residents were polled and rejected one prototype, one that looks like a street lamp with a pizza box on top. led lighting
Richard Sand, who also helped design the solar lights, said the modular design is key. led lighting |
